Description: Due to the sustained empathic relationship inherent in therapy, the trauma counselorís belief system and world view are vulnerable to the effects of the traumatic experiences of clients. These effects can be pervasive and may lead to personal and professional difficulties. Left unattended, the cumulative effects of trauma work may put the counselor educator or clinical supervisor at risk for PTSD symptomatology. This 6-hour workshop will feature a presentation on vicarious trauma and posttraumatic growth considerations. Additionally, an expressive arts model of counseling supervision will be provided followed by experiential activities to assist clinicians in gaining tools, conceptualizing client cases, and preventing vicarious traumatization.
Learning Objectives Include:
∑ Understand and process through the impact a steady diet of traumatized clients has on counselor
